Why Does My Boiler Keep Shutting Off?
The boiler starts, runs briefly and shuts down — or locks out with an error.
What could cause this?
- Flame sensing or ignition faults
- Venting or combustion air problems
- Overheating from poor water flow
- Low water pressure or low-water cutoff
- Control or sensor faults
What you can safely check
- Note any error code
- Note the pressure gauge reading
- Note how long it runs before shutting off
Don't open electrical panels or equipment cabinets, handle refrigerant, work on gas or combustion components, or bypass safety controls.
When it requires a professional
If you smell gas, leave the building and call your gas utility or 911 from outside. A boiler that keeps shutting down is often protecting itself. Request service instead of repeatedly resetting it.
How Air Mechanical diagnoses it
We read the lockout history, then verify flame, venting, water flow and controls.
Every diagnosis starts with the system as it actually exists — equipment, controls, wiring and installation. The equipment has a brand. The problem has a solution.
