Why Is My AC Blowing Warm Air?
Air is moving through the vents, but it isn’t cold.
What could cause this?
- Outdoor unit not running while the indoor blower does
- Failed capacitor or contactor
- Tripped safety or high-pressure switch
- Refrigerant leak
- Heat pump stuck in heating mode or misconfigured thermostat
What you can safely check
- Verify the thermostat is in Cool, not Heat, Auto or Fan only
- Check whether the outdoor unit is running
- Check the filter
Don't open electrical panels or equipment cabinets, handle refrigerant, work on gas or combustion components, or bypass safety controls.
When it requires a professional
If the outdoor unit isn’t running or keeps stopping, don’t repeatedly restart it. Request service.
How Air Mechanical diagnoses it
We check why the outdoor section isn’t doing its job — electrical, safeties, refrigerant or controls — and whether something else caused the failure.
Every diagnosis starts with the system as it actually exists — equipment, controls, wiring and installation. The equipment has a brand. The problem has a solution.
