Why Is My Nest Thermostat Not Working?
Blank screen, not responding, or not controlling the heating or cooling.
What could cause this?
- Loss of 24V power — wiring, transformer or tripped safety switch
- No C-wire and unreliable power stealing
- Incorrect wiring or configuration
- Equipment control board problems
- Zone controller or relay issues
What you can safely check
- Check whether the HVAC equipment itself has power
- Look at the Nest’s technical info screen for wiring and power information
- Take a photo of the thermostat wiring for us
Don't open electrical panels or equipment cabinets, handle refrigerant, work on gas or combustion components, or bypass safety controls.
When it requires a professional
If the thermostat looks right but the system doesn’t respond, the problem is likely at the HVAC equipment. Request service.
How Air Mechanical diagnoses it
As a Nest Pro and HVAC technician, we check the thermostat, the wiring and the equipment controls together.
Every diagnosis starts with the system as it actually exists — equipment, controls, wiring and installation. The equipment has a brand. The problem has a solution.
